Spring Design has entered the already competitive e-book market with a bang! It recently showcased its totally unique, new and refreshing Alex e-reader. This seems to have got the pre-requisites to give the others a run for their money.

Spring Design’s Alex e-Reader

One of the most coolest features which it boasts of is the presence of two high resolution capacitive Multi Touch screens, with high picture quality. One is the main screen meant for the e-reading, while the other is meant for control functions. This sure is quite unique uber cool feature which sets it different from the rest, at the first sight only. The different styles and sizes of fonts make it comfortable for reading. Around the LCD panel one can find a few buttons which are the usual back, forward, home, etc. control buttons. They are quick and responsive.

An innovative new feature that the alex provides is ‘Link Notes’, it allows authors to tag hyperlinks to the documents which provide link to related web-based info found on the internet. Spring Design says this would enhance the reading experience of the users.

The Alex e-reader is powered by a 600 MHz processor, weighing around 11 ounces and with 0.5 inch thick, it doesn’t lack a bit in styling and portability.

The Alex does not lack in multimedia functions as an intelligent e-book reader. It provides a gallery for photos and videos, music player, microphone, 3.5mm headset jack, speakers and Micro SD card slot. Moreover, applications supported by the Android platform can also be downloaded.

Priced at $399, its reception by the consumers look dim. After all, affordability does play a key role in the commercial success of a product. It seems that Spring Design would have to strive hard to make their offering a succes. Let’s see if it stands up to the expectations of the people and the market, or just becomes another much hyped product to have been lost in wilderness.
